Continuous updates that cause add-ons to become incompatible is insane. I just updated to FF 8 and regret it already. Yeah it's 5 sales you might lose, but is it really worth it? It's anyone's guess.The folks at Mozilla don't have time to actually use their browser (test) before they release it to the wild with this new 6 week update cycle paradigm. You're devoting time and money to putting films out on Betamax, for the 5 people left in the world who don't own a VCR, DVD or BLURAY, internet connection. It's those who desperately cling to hypothetical lost sales that give cause for everyone else to suffer. More and more developers are following in Google's footsteps and feeling like it's our job to encourage upgrades. It's the stragglers who ruin it for everybody else. How can you be certain you aren't losing potential sales that could be had by fully embracing modern technologies and enhancing the user experience for your core user base? How can you be so certain the ends justify the means? Why is it that we feel like we can't make our users upgrade? The speed with which the internet evolves is entirely dictated by the straggler developers. "Lost revenue": the oft repeated fear tactic we tell ourselves so we can sleep at night.
